DIY Hair Masks

In this day and age where taking care of your body and skin is so important, I think it's time that we show some TLC to our hair.

A lot of you have requested me to write about Hair Masks that I have tried and tested and which ones can help with different types of hair types. Hair Masks are quick yet they can be highly potent and effective in different ways of providing your hair with tons of health benefits and most of them are under 20 minutes. So if you think you don't have time to apply a hair mask. Stop. You have time. Whilst cooking dinner, making the bed, before doing anything, it'll take you max 5 minutes to apply the masks and then you're ready to go. Do leave me a message if you tried any of the masks I'm about to tell you today.

Hair Masks have many benefits such as softening, hydrating, adding shine and to help fight off any infections. (Yes, you read that right!) Most of the ingredients that you will need for these masks are probably already in your fridge or cupboard. So you wont need to go out on a huge shopping haul to find them. So lets get started!

1. Coconut Oil and Honey (Repairing)

Ingredients: 1 tbsp Coconut Oil

1 tbsp Honey

Let this sit for around 15-20 minutes and make sure that you work this throughout your hair and into your roots. Rinse it out with warm water.

Benefits of Coconut: Coconut Oil keeps your hair soft and prevents hair breakage because of its high moisture retaining capabilities. The oil also contains a lot of fatty acids that can penetrate the hair deeply which will lead to beautiful, soft, silky and shiny hair!

Benefits of Honey: Honey is great for retaining moisture in your hair (Especially great if you have dry hair!). Honey has an emollient in it that helps smooth and soften hair when applied.

I personally use this once a week on my hair to ensure that my hair stays soft and hydrated. I really work it into my roots and after 1 month of using this regularly, I have seen a difference in the way my hair feels!

2. Coconut Oil and Cinnamon (Hair Growth)

Ingredients: 1 tbsp Coconut Oil

1 tbsp Cinnamon

Let this sit in your hair for around 40-45 minutes and then rinse it out with warm water.

Benefits of Cinnamon: Cinnamon has antimicrobial properties that help growth and can help with dandruff and hair loss. By adding Cinnamon into your hair masks, it can help strengthen your hair follicles because it basically stimulates circulation to the scalp whilst improving blood flow to the hair follicles.

I've only tried this hair mask twice so far and especially with my roots, I can feel a small difference.

3. Brown Sugar and Olive Oil ( Dry Hair )

Ingredients: 2 tbsp Brown Sugar

1 tbsp Olive Oil

Let this sit in your hair for around 20 minutes. Make sure you work this into the scalp and on the ends of your hair

Benefits of Brown Sugar: Brown sugar acts as a great exfoliator that can help get rid of dead skin cells from your scalp and any leftover residue that can buildup in your hair.

Benefits of Olive Oil: Olive oil locks in moisture and can prevent dryness on the scalp. The oil is great as it can prevent hair breakage, split ends and fly aways.

4. Banana, Yogurt and Honey ( Frizzy Hair )

Ingredients: 1 Sliced Banana

2 tbsp plain yogurt

1 tbsp honey

Apply this mask onto damp hair and then leave it on for a minimum of 45 minutes. Rinse is out well with warm water.

Benefits of Bananas: Bananas are full of natural oils, potassium, carbohydrates and vitamins that help lock in moisture and can help eliminate that annoying frizz.

Benefits of Yogurt: Yogurt has high levels of lactic acid which can help treat dull and damaged hair.

5. Coconut Oil, Eggs, Avocado and Honey ( Damaged Hair )

Ingredients: 1 Avocado

2 Eggs

1 tbsp Honey

1 tbsp Coconut Oil

Apply this mask onto damp hair and then let is sit for at least 20 minutes. Rinse out with warm water.

Benefits of Avocado: Avocados are full with healthy fats with at least 20 different vitamins and minerals including Potassium, Folate (Repairs damaged cells), Vitamins E and C (Promote hair growth). Avocados also add shine and moisture whilst also helping prevent against heat and everyday wear & tear.

Benefits of Eggs: Eggs (especially the yolks) can help resist against any damage as it's rich in vitamins. It's like a superfood for your hair! Eggs can also help your hair grow faster

6. Coconut Oil, Strawberry and Honey (Shiny Hair)

Ingredients: 6-8 Strawberries (Fresh or frozen)

1 tbsp Coconut Oil

1 tbsp Honey

Apply this to either dry or damp hair and let it sit for a minimum of 15 minutes. Rinse out with warm water and then cold water.

Benefits of Strawberries: Strawberries are full of Vitamin C which help the body create Collagen (which is an important element of the hair's structure). They also help eliminate oil and grease whilst adding a glossy shine.

I personally used this mask a lot recently. I love it!! Once I've rinsed it out I can instantly feel my hair so smooth and it looks shiny!

You can mix and match ingredients to your preference e.g. When I use the Coconut Oil and Strawberries Mask, I tend to add 1/2 tbsp of Cinnamon in. You can mix and match whatever ingredients you want!

Challenge for you guys: Try at least one of these masks and let me know what you preferred or which one worked best for you!
